Fast Food Guilty Pleasures

I enjoy chicken strips and coleslaw from Long John Silver's. The chicken is always hot and freshly prepared at my local. When I have a craving for Tex-Mex I go to Taco John's. They use actual meat unlike Taco Bell. The taco salad is my favorite.

The BEC biscuit is the only item from McDonald's that I crave.

by Anonymousreply 3December 6, 2019 7:38 PM

I love a Whopper with cheese. More than any of those fancy burger joints. Otherwise no fast food really appeals.

Sometimes, all that gets me through a day at work is knowing I can stop at Taco Bell for a Chicken Chalupa.

I used to get a Double-Decker Taco with it but they took that away from me.

Bastards!

by Anonymousreply 12December 6, 2019 8:36 PM

What in holy hell is a “teen” burger?

by Anonymousreply 13December 6, 2019 8:43 PM

Chicken McNuggets with Hot Mustard Sauce. I smell them and start to salivate.

by Anonymousreply 14December 6, 2019 8:47 PM

McDonald's: Filet O Fish, McChicken, and large French fries. Diet Coke.

Taco Bell: regular tacos (love the shell) and bean burritos. Fire sauce. Taco salad.

Jack in the Box: curly fries. In drunken days, used to like the bacon cheeseburger.

Burger King: original (oblong) chicken sandwich and French fries (prefer to McD's FFs).

I am not fat but I used to be.

by Anonymousreply 15December 6, 2019 8:52 PM

R13 It appears that a teen burger is a bit larger than a mama burger, but smaller than a papa burger. But a double teen burger is the same size of a papa burger.

by Anonymousreply 16December 6, 2019 8:58 PM

R13, A&W used to (or perhaps still does) have items on their menu like a "momma burger" and a "papa burger", and if I recall correctly, a "baby burger". I never heard of a "teen burger" on their menu. It was just in reference to the size of the burgers, whether it was a single or a double, etc... I worked at an "old school" locally owned A&W in the early 90's, but their menu has changed a lot since they merged with KFC, nothing like they were originally, especially their chili sauce. They also had a "mozza burger" on their menu, which was basically a cheese burger made with mozzarella cheese instead of cheddar, thousand island dressing, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Those things were the bomb.

by Anonymousreply 17December 6, 2019 8:59 PM

Penn Station. Their steak sandwiches are cooked to order, their fries are cut and cooked to order, and they offer fresh made lemonade to wash it all down.

I miss when Long John Silvers briefly had breaded fried shrimp wraps on their menu back in the 90's. Those things were *enormous*, and came stuffed with shrimp, vegetables and a spicy creamy sauce of sorts. I never understood how they were able to turn a profit off of selling those. One of them was easily enough for two meals.

I sometimes like a Sausage McMuffin and a large coffee from McDonald's. Or a roast beef sandwich from Arby's, with lots of pepper and horsey sauce.

by Anonymousreply 19December 6, 2019 9:12 PM

Asian Chao's bourbon chicken. I'll usually order double the meat, ditch the fried rice and ask for a double portion of their cabbage stir fry with vegetables. They're found in mall food courts.

Krystal Chik burgers. Like ½ a CFA sandwich.

by Anonymousreply 22December 6, 2019 9:18 PM

R4, I would regularly grab a Whopper Jr., with no cheese or mayo for a quick lunch. At only$1.50 at the time, it was a decent deal - plus you're getting some vegetables in with the fresh tomato and lettuce on it. I always had my own bottled waters in my car. I skipped the fries too.

by Anonymousreply 23December 6, 2019 9:19 PM

The sweet plantains from Pollo Tropical. In fact, anything from there really. That's one thing I miss from living in Florida.

by Anonymousreply 24December 6, 2019 9:21 PM

Mr. Hero's chicken Philly sandwiches. I don't recall them putting mayo on them back then, as is listed on their site, but they promoted they fact they were only 7 grams of fat per sandwich. The swiss-american cheese melted on them was awesome.

2nd the Taco Bell taco salad. It's wondrous. Fire sauce, of course. Other favorites from there are the soft tacos and the potato soft tacos. Mmm.

McDonalds: Like the original Egg McMuffin meal with the hash brown; occasionally I'll split a 10-piece with hubby or get a strawberry sundae.

Jack in the Box: only the original crunchy fried tacos with the American cheese slice. Mystery soy meat, who cares.

Wawa hoagies and hot foods.

Jersey Mike's Philly Cheese steak.

Have you ever been to Penn Station R18? If you have you'd never eat anything from a place named after it! It's a horrible warren of low-ceilinged tunnels that smell like piss and diesel.

by Anonymousreply 28December 6, 2019 9:48 PM

R18, I think you must be a neighbor. I like their chicken teriyaki sandwiches, and fresh lemonade.

by Anonymousreply 29December 6, 2019 9:50 PM

If I'm on the road and it's breakfast time and I see a McDonald's, I'll be in line ordering an Egg McMuffin. Love 'em! I sometimes make them at home too but they don't taste as good as the ones that McDonald's makes.

by Anonymousreply 30December 6, 2019 10:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 32December 6, 2019 10:30 PM

Long John Silver's fish and chips. My favourite location has an all you can eat special on Sunday evenings. They cringe when they see me coming. It is also an A&W so you can get a root beer along with your fish.

Cracker Barrel (not exactly fast food, I know) but my perfect breakfast is their biscuits, sausage and cream gravy.

McDonalds: Sausage and egg McMuffin and a hash brown. Three ketchups. Filets-o-Fish -- super cheap on Fridays during Lent.

Wendy's: Double Cheeseburger and chili.

Del Taco: Queso loaded nachos, no beans, extra beef, add jalapeños.

Subway: Tuna salad, provolone, lettuce, onions, cucumbers, mustard, mayo.

Carl's Jr/Hardee's: Sausage gravy and biscuits.

I have one of these no more than once a month or two, though. Generally I cook at home and eat well.

by Anonymousreply 55December 7, 2019 6:25 PM

I don't get why people hate on Arby's so much, lol (I'm looking at you, Stephen Colbert).

I get a little defensive about it, since it originated near my hometown. Granted it's nothing like it originally was back in the 70's and early 80's when my parents would take me there. For example, they had the roast beef under a heat lamp, and would slice it to order, visible to you from the counter. A basic roast beef sandwich there is only 360 calories, and their signature Arby's sauce goes great with it.. They used to offer a version of their classic roast beef sandwich with lettuce and tomato as well, I forget what they called it on their menu.

However you can basically get it in the form of their roast beef gyro, along with tzatziki sauce, which is definitely a fast food guilty pleasure of mine.

by Anonymousreply 65December 8, 2019 2:51 AM

I worked at a Burger King back in the early 90's, right around the time that fast food places were being pressured to publish nutritional information of their menu. This was also around the time the whole "fat free/low fat" craze was in full force. I think most people didn't realize that their grilled chicken sandwich was just as fattening as a Whopper. The processed chicken patties came in pre-cooked, and covered with what looked to be like shortening. At the time, their grilled chicken sandwiches were also prepared with the same amount of mayo they would use on a Whopper.

Taco Bell: Nachos Bell Grande, Mexican Pizza

Arby's: French Dip and Mozzarella sticks

Little Caesars: Crazy Bread

McDonalds: Big Mac, Chicken Nuggets, Fries

Wendy's: Chili, Frosty

by Anonymousreply 78December 10, 2019 8:36 AM

R77 I wouldn't quite consider the Frosty a milkshake, even though it's somewhere between a milkshake and soft serve ice cream. Steak 'n Shake has a huge assortment of huge ass milkshakes. Dairy Queen used to have decent food at their "Dairy Queen Brazier" locations, back in the 80's at least. Their burgers and fries were great, as were their foot long hot dogs with cheese sauce.

Victor's Taco Shop is a regional chain in several Ohio areas & has a great cantaloupe drink (with ice added but it's not a soda) but it's not listed on the speaker menu at my local restaurant. I just discovered it years after it opened (I don't know why several of their drinks aren't on there but now you know if you're in the Ohio area). Their Mexican food is also enjoyable. The prices are higher than Taco Bell but you get more on your plate for the extra $.

There's a Dairy Queen near me that used to have the best fries I've ever eaten. It was worth buying one of their mediocre "warmed up in a microwave" burgers just to get the fries that went with it.

At some point, quite recently, the fries turned to crap. They're now pale and undercooked with a nasty, rubbery texture. There's no point in buying anything there now.

Jack in the Box egg rolls, tacos and one of the burgers. A multicultural feast!

Do they have Freddy's where you all live? Kind of like an old fashioned diner type focusing on burgers, fries and soft serve ice cream. Great stuff! They have fry sauce that is kind of like a remoulade, too.
