Margaret Atwood is a Canadian novelist, poet, literary critic, essayist, and environmental activist. She is the author of more than forty books of fiction, poetry, and critical essays. Her work has been published in over thirty-five countries and has been translated into more than twenty languages. Atwood is best known for her novels, which include The Handmaid's Tale (1985), Cat's Eye (1988), The Robber Bride (1993), Alias Grace (1996), The Blind Assassin (2000), Oryx and Crake (2003), The Year of the Flood (2009), and MaddAddam (2013). She has also written several collections of short stories, including Dancing Girls (1977), Bluebeard's Egg (1983), and Moral Disorder (2006). Atwood has won numerous awards for her writing, including the Booker Prize, the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Governor General's Award, and the Giller Prize. She was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1981 and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2006. In 2019, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
